
Andrea Sanguineti

The German-Italian conductor Andrea Sanguineti has been General Music Director of the Aalto Music Theatre and the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra since the 2023/24 season. With productions such as Parsifal, Tosca, Aida, and La forza del destino, he is currently attracting considerable attention in Essen.
Recent and upcoming appearances include concert performances of Bellini's Norma with La Banda Storica and the Chor der Bühnen Bern at the Stadttheater Bern, Donizetti's Dalinda with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir at Amsterdam's Het Concertgebouw, Verdi's La Traviata at the Komische Oper Berlin, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade with the Essener Philharmoniker in a guest performance at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, and Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
Sanguineti is a highly sought-after opera conductor at leading European opera houses, including Zurich Opera (Verdi Gala, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Don Giovanni, Manon Lescaut), Cologne Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, Die lustige Witwe), Leipzig Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, Tosca, La Cenerentola), Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg (Stiffelio, Norma), Opéra de Nice (La Traviata), and the Grand Théâtre de Genève (Maria Stuarda). In 2023, he made his debut at the Sydney Opera House with Donizetti's Roberto Devereux, followed in 2024 by his debut at the Savonlinna Festival with Mozart's Don Giovanni.
In the symphonic repertoire, Sanguineti has also impressed audiences with acclaimed performances of works by composers such as Mahler, Bruckner, Strauss, and Tchaikovsky. In addition to the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, he has conducted the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Romanian National Radio in Bucharest.
